How to Use Adobe Ideas

Previous version, not 2.5

Adobe Ideas, for the iPad, is my drawing app of choice.  I've used many other drawing apps but with it's clean UI and limited feature set, no other apps feel more like natural drawing.

With this eBook, you'll learn how to:

  • Master techniques professionals use to create three-dimensional illustrations
  • Simulate watercolor painting with transparencies
  • Create breathtaking color palettes from the world around you
  • Emulate eloquent wood cut prints
  • Draw natural lines with the Pen tool
  • Add robust texture to your art
  • Plus detailed information on every tool, setting and icon in Ideas

I've also included several cool tips and time-saving tricks for you to get the most productivity out of Adobe Ideas! Take this eBook with you as you create beautiful works of art wherever you are.

What is Another Place?
You've probably been there but you don't remember.  You might have pictures of it from when you were last there all those long years ago.  It's a place not so different from our own and all it takes to get there is you.  Remember what it's like to swim through the skies of Another Place, to run along the ocean floor, to find adventure and mystery everywhere you look.
Here in this journal, we will record those memories and discover Another Place all over again.

Redesign almost done!

I've been working away on an updated vision for this site.  I wanted to have a different, unique way of posting art and art related material on the web and I think I've managed to do that.  I'm pretty excited about the possibilities.  I hope to launch the new site this weekend (whew!) or at the very least, this coming week.  As such, I'll host an event when the site goes live.  There will also be a new contest/giveaway announced when my new site goes up.  So stay tuned!

Sing

Here's a quick iPad sketch I did last night using Adobe Ideas. I really lliked the black and white version but i think the final color treatment really helps the mood.  The name of this illustration is Sing.

Critters

For some reason if I don't have a decent image to post, I find it very difficult to write a blog post. I'm really trying to come up with different ways to use a blog and I have a few ideas I'd like to try.

A while back I mentioned an art project and offered a sneak peek at some of the art. The project still isn't ready but will be soon. I think some sort of "give away" will be in the mix as well. Until then, here's a little critter I sketched a few days ago.

I promised a new drawing activity today but as of right now, I don't think I'm going to be able to post it.  I had more work than I anticipated pile up this morning and I'm not going to get a chance to get the piece done.  But, since I promised, here's a sneak peek:

A bird in the bush

Whew! Another busy weekend as family were rushed to the ER (everyone's ok), basketball games bounced along (they're all done now) and loads of firewood were split and hauled to the porch (still loads more to go). In the interim, I started a new magazine project called "The Illustrated Blog" which will be full of art, tutorials and a guest artist or two. Despite all of these activities unfolding over a two day span, I did manage some drawing time.

Saturday morning was bright and sunny as I sat at the round dining room table, sipping my steaming coffee. Then, only minutes after filling the bird feeders, landed 7 Gold Finches, followed by a Cardinal and even a few Robins popped by. Robins make me laugh because they always look angry. I love to watch the birds while drawing and enjoying my morning brew. I was rewarded with a few more favorites: the Nut-Hatch, Titmice and a few Sparrows. There were a few new birds to the area as well including a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and Rufous Sided Towhee. I couldn't resist sketching the Towhee on my iPad.

Tomorrow I have a special drawing and activity planned for this blog and all the usual social media hangouts so be sure to check back tomorrow!
